Susan J.

Financial Peace Coordinator

Bio

Hi! I am Sue. I retired two years ago at age 55 after working over 30 years in various Human Resources positions.  For nearly 25 of those years, I served as Manager of Retirement Plans, at the corporate level, for three large organizations in southeast Michigan. My husband, our two German Shorthairs and I moved to Kalkaska last summer. We’re settled in and loving it!

During my career, I was exposed to many employees retiring; some were prepared and some were definitely not.  This ignited a passion in me to find a way to help people plan for a dignified retirement. While working, that meant getting people interested, educated and signed up for the pension plans available to them. However, it was difficult to get some people interested because they were not in control of their money.  It starts there!

Since I moved to Kalkaska, I was looking for a way to use my extra time, passion and expertise to help Kalkaska area residents better manage their money, which would enable them to plan for a great retirement.  I was happy to find an opportunity to do this through Tree of Life Body Works, with enthusiastic support and encouragement from Dr. Kareen Oosterhart.  It is her mission to provide wellness education, in all of its forms, to the residents of Kalkaska County.

Financial wellness is just one of the many ways Dr. Oosterhart does that, and there’s no better program to address financial wellness than Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU).  It’s a 9-week course that provides a roadmap to tell your money what to do, instead of wondering where it went.  The plan truly works and has made a huge difference in thousands of lives.  I am proud to serve as coordinator of the FPU program in this area.

Julie Nasko

Fitness Instructor

Bio

After struggling with my weight since being a young adult, I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in 2008 due to my unhealthy lifestyle.  At this time, I was also a pack a day smoker.  In 2010, I made the choice to start improving my life.  First by giving up the smoking habit, increasing my physical activity and choosing to eat less processed foods.  Starting in late 2014, the real transformation began and I started attending fitness classes on a regular basis, swimming laps and lifting weights at the Kaliseum gym.  I started out attending the Body Boot Camp Fitness class as a student and was asked if I would be interested in instructing the class.  I am enjoying every moment and look forward to helping the participants become healthier and lead a more active lifestyle.  In my spare time, I enjoy being outside kayaking and golfing or just relaxing outdoors reading a good book.
